Last Thursday, Amina Alhaj-Omar, a 25-year-old graduate student at Ohio State University, was found dead in a quarry in South Columbus.

According to her family and authorities, she was reported missing on June 10, 2023, and her body was found on July 12, 2023.

After finding her abandoned vehicle on Interstate 270, Amina Alhaj Omar’s abduction sparked a month-long search. 

The CCTV camera then caught the missing 25-year-old woman brandishing two knives at the BP gas station south of I-270, raising concerns about her whereabouts.

Authorities issued a missing person notice for an Ohio State University graduate in danger and possibly armed after the discovery. 

Officials attributed the disappearance to a mental health crisis. A Columbus Police Department representative stated. 

“The Columbus Division of Police, along with assistance from neighbouring law enforcement agencies, are actively following up on tips.” Helicopters, horses, ATVs, and search dogs are helping find the missing woman.”

The woman’s relatives speculated in the weeks that she had gone to the quarry pond after her items were found nearby.

Amina’s bones were discovered in the quarry behind the petrol station one month after she disappeared.

What happened to Amina?

Last week, a missing Ohio State University graduate student was found in a quarry. Amina Alhaj-Omar, 25, was found dead on Wednesday, according to WCMH.

An official statement from Columbus police said they found the bones in a “remote area.” Her death is currently unknown.

“We are heartbroken by our tremendous loss, but we thank God every day for granting us the honor of knowing and loving her radiant spirit for the past 25 years.” Alhaj-Omar’s relatives wrote an obituary.

According to the obituary, her relatives reported her missing on June 10. After exhausting all leads, officials called off the search 19 days after the disappearance, according to WCMH. The investigation was futile.

“While the investigation continues to be ongoing, the ongoing look for Miss Omar has concluded,” the police had added.

According to the Columbus Dispatch, Alhaj-Omar earned her bachelor’s degree in criminology from Ohio State University and began her doctoral studies in social work.

Relatives’ news claims suggested authorities contemplated her going into the quarry pond. The premises contained her jacket, shoes, and smartphone.

Her relatives said she “worked hard to pursue her admirable dream of fighting for people.”

“Most people who truly met Amina immediately recalled her laugh—it was contagious which brought happiness to everyone in the room,” her obituary states.

Amina Alhaj-Omar had a knack for making people feel welcome. She was beautiful, kind, quiet, smart, and loving.

How did Amina Alhaj-Omar died?

While Amina Alhaj Omar’s family grieves, the authorities have not revealed the case’s details, including her death. 

An obituary described the Ohio State University graduate as a competent and sympathetic person who helped others. 

Her relatives expressed their sorrow. They said, “Amina was a soft and kind soul who demonstrated the utmost compassion and empathy for any person that crossed her path.” Many people crossed Amina.

They added: Despite her irreparable loss, we thank God every day for the blessing of knowing and loving her great spirit for 25 years.

Before studying social work at Ohio State University, Amina earned a bachelor’s degree in criminology. Reports said she prioritized her family and worked hard. Their parents and four sisters survive her.

Most people who knew Amina recall her infectious laugh, which made everyone happy. She had an unusual capacity to make people feel welcome in any circumstance.  The authorities are unsure of what caused the person’s death.
