Who was John Gotti?

John Joseph Gotti Jr. (October 27, 1940 – June 10, 2002) was an American gangster and leader of the Gambino criminal family in New York City.

He oversaw the family and America’s most powerful crime organization after ordering and helping to murder Gambino chief Paul Castellano in December 1985.

Gotti and his brothers were poor and became criminals young. Gotti, based in Queens’ Ozone Park, became one of the Gambino family’s top earners and Aniello Dellacroce’s protégé.

After the FBI indicted Gotti’s gang for cocaine trafficking, Gotti feared Castellano would kill him and his brother.

Gotti killed Castellano as dread grew and discontent over the crime family’s leadership grew.

Gotti was a strong and dangerous US criminal boss at his peak. His outspokenness and flamboyance won him over part of the people during his time.

Gotti was known as “The Dapper Don” for his acceptable attire and charm in front of TV cameras while his peers avoided attention.

He was dubbed “The Teflon Don” after three high-profile 1980s trials acquitted him, although jury tampering, misconduct, and witness intimidation marred the trials.

Gotti, who reputedly made $5–20 million as Gambino chief, was being investigated by law officials.

Salvatore “Sammy the Bull” Gravano, Gotti’s underboss, helped the FBI convict him in 1991 after hearing the boss criticize him on a wiretap that linked them both to many murders.

Gotti was found guilty of five murders, conspiracy, racketeering, obstruction of justice, tax evasion, illicit gambling, extortion, and loansharking in 1992.

His sentence was life without parole, and he transferred to Marion USP.

John Gotti wife Victoria DiGiorgio marriage

Victoria and John met in a Brooklyn pub in 1958 and were married on March 6, 1962, even though John was a notorious New York criminal.

She gave birth to their five children: Angel in 1961, Victoria in 1962, John A. in 1964, Frank in 1967, and Peter Gotti, Jr. in 1974. John A. Gotti, the oldest, grew up with his father and eventually became a gangster.

When their second oldest child, Frank, was 12 years old, he was killed when his neighbor, John Favara, ran a red light and hit him as he was riding his bike.

Favara disappeared four months later, and it is thought that John had him killed.

Victoria was heartbroken by the loss of her kid, and she stayed in bed for over a year out of grief.

Victoria still remembers the days when John gave her money to wager, but she would generally play a small amount and save the rest for the home.

The two of them lived a luxury lifestyle and went to horse races frequently.
